Nightclub Collapse in Dominican Republic Kills Over 98, Including Icon Rubby Pérez and Ex-MLB Star 🕊️

Raps.co offers its deepest condolences to all the families affected by this unspeakable loss.

It was supposed to be a night of rhythm, joy, and Afro-Latin pride. But instead, it turned into one of the most heartbreaking disasters the Dominican Republic has ever seen. Late Saturday night, the roof of Club Cielo Azul, a popular nightclub in Santo Domingo, collapsed suddenly, killin’ over 98 people — includin’ Dominican merengue legend Rubby Pérez and a former MLB baseball player, whose identity has not yet been officially released. Over 160 humans injured….

🎶 The Culture Mourns a Merengue Maestro

Ain’t nobody could work a stage like Rubby. That man was soul, spice, and stamina — an icon not just in DR, but across every Latin and Caribbean dance floor worldwide. Rubby Pérez, who was blessin’ the mic live that night, reportedly didn’t stand a chance when the ceiling gave in.

Eyewitnesses said the moment was surreal — one second, the crowd was movin’ to that sweet merengue rhythm, and the next, screams filled the air as the building crumbled from above.

“We was all vibin’. Rubby had just hit the chorus, then boom — the whole place started shakin’,” said a survivor, still in shock. “It felt like the earth was angry.”

Paramedics, fire crews, and volunteers worked through the early morning hours pullin’ people from the rubble. Sadly, Pérez was among the first confirmed fatalities, leavin’ fans and loved ones devastated. 💔🎺

⚾ Baseball Star Among the Fallen

The heartbreak don’t stop with the music world. Sources close to the investigation have confirmed that one of the victims is a retired Dominican-born MLB player, beloved by fans in both the DR and the States. While officials are withholdin’ his name outta respect for the family, many in the local community already mourn his loss on social media.

Both Rubby and the former ballplayer were known not just for their talents, but for givin’ back to the youth, upliftin’ communities, and keepin’ the culture strong. This is more than a loss — it’s a rip through the soul of the island. 🌴⚾🎶

🏚️ What Caused the Collapse?

That’s the million-dollar question right now — how does a whole roof just fall in?

Local authorities are investigatin’ whether poor construction, lack of permits, or even recent renovations could be behind the catastrophe. Folks who’ve been to Club Cielo Azul before said the place was always packed to the brim, but nobody expected the ceiling to cave in like that.

There’s been quiet talk for months about shady development deals and builders cuttin’ corners in Santo Domingo’s nightlife district. If that’s the case, somebody got blood on their hands.

💌 What Happens Next?

As the city buries its dead, the people are demandin’ answers — and justice. There’s already talk of lawsuits, criminal charges, and public demonstrations. The Dominican government has promised a full investigation, but for now, it’s all about healin’, honorin’, and holdin’ each other close.

🙏🏾 Rest in power to all the souls we lost.
